I'm trying to sort out a few things so I can be a viable WAR tank option for FC content, since we'll be doing more as a group soon. I have a few questions because some of the content in the link is a bit dated.
- Should I throw all bonus points into VIT or STR, split evenly or split 2:1 ratio? What is the reasoning?
- Should the primary stat be the focus for gear as well, or should there be a split, or should the focus be tertiary stats?
- What are the optimum cross-class skills for WAR? Personally I was thinking of using Provoke, Second Wind, Flash, Internal Release, and Convalescence, but Featherfoot, Awareness and Mantra seem like they could be viable options as well
- Can you recommend some "current" skill rotations that actually include Overpower? The link doesn't even mention the skill
- All STR. Vit comes from gear and HP is recovered with skills. Plus, more damage = more hate gen
- Personally I favor skill speed and det over everything. WAR can be ass slow.
- I do Provoke, Flash, Internal Release and Featherfoot. 5 stacks of Wrath is better than Conv for heal boosts as it doesn't run out. I have Second Wind equipped but it doesn't do much, and there are heal attacks that work better (e.g. Inner Beast). That said, it's saved me a good few times, though thinking of trying Savage Blade in the mix. Awareness may be useful in big fights (Titan one-shot crit Mountain Buster happens a hell of a lot), but again, not tried it.
- Flash > Overpower on trash mobs. Have to be careful though, as Flash offers hollow emnity and is only useful if followed by damaged. The problem is some DDs (not naming any names ;) ) thinking you using flash generates enough hate for them to start spamming attacks, and end up pulling hate. Also, Overpower is very TP heavy compared to the others, so you don't want to be needing to use it too much.
Ok so bonus points into STR, gear focus on SSPD, DET, and VIT… Equip Provoke, Flash, Internal Release, Featherfoot and Second Wind…
Question about the "Flash on trash" idea… Generally I pull with voke*, then Flash the mobs, but as you say, it doesn't generate enough hate for people to start bashing. Is there anything else I can do to assist with hate generation to hit a few mobs besides a well timed (and well aimed) Overpower? I try to do this but it seems unreliable for keeping DPS (and sometimes Healers) safe until my hate is solid.
*I haven't done the class quests or been comfortable enough to take on high lvl dungeons yet as I'd like to learn from the ground up, so I haven't unlocked certain skills yet
Tomahawk is better for pulls. 'voke moves you one position of hate, but works in a similar way to Flash: it's hollow hate gen, so a bit of a waste for a pull (exception is the demon women things in AK; such range). Tomahawk deals damage so is stronger, and you may need 'voke if something gets away. If you've got Wrath 5 up you can Steel Cyclone: good AOE hate gen. If you're geared enough it shouldn't be a concern,. maybe throw in a couple more Overpowers. If you're worried about it, use Infuriate as you go in and Flash > Steel Cyclone > Overpower. Mark targets so that you don't really need to switch targets during your hate cycle (Butcher Block combo). If DPS is lowish or they're AOEing to shit, give the others a Butcher Block combo or the odd Overpower. Fracture also helps.
WP and AK ease you in nicely, and there's good opportunities to try larger pulls. Also, Holmang on the slime boss in WP when he chooses a target is fun ^^
For bosses, pull with a Tomahawk in case there are DDs with itchy trigger fingers. You need to get your Wrath up quickly, so go for about 2 of the Butchers Block combos, pop Beserk, and then the Storm's Path Combo (Maim gives you a status effect which boosts your damage). Few more BB combos and SP to keep the damage (and therefore hate) up and they should be hate locked to you. CDs as and when. If they're a boss that disengages (e.g. Primals) be careful with your Beserk. You'll need to pop it in good time so you're not locked for when they move. Try and keep Bloodbath up to make life easier on healers.
If you're getting hammer, pop a CD, then Thrill of Battle. If that's not enough and the healers "having trouble" use Inner Beast for HP recovery. Try and keep full Wrath up as long as you can (Overpower and Tomahawk do nothing!) for the healing boosts.
I'll give these a go (a lot of the skills you mentioned I don't have yet, so I need to do class quests and/or higher lvl dungeons, but I'll test it out as soon as I can ^_^
